Israeli air defences are working to intercept missiles said to have been launched from Iran, following a string of threats earlier in the day.

Israel’s IDF said in a post on social media they had identified missiles “launched from Iran toward Israel”, while “defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat”.

“Sirens were sounded in several areas across the country following the identification of missiles launched from Iran toward Israel,” they added.

The strikes mark the first attacks on Israel from Iran since the April ceasefire took effect. An unnamed Israeli official told Axios that Israel plans to respond.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said the Israeli army must stop its attacks on Lebanon and if it expands its attacks or responds to Iran's actions, it will face “more crushing and regretful blows”.

“We had previously warned that if the crimes in the Dahieh area of Beirut expand, we will attack targets in the occupied territories,” IRGC top joint military command said.

Recap: Trump says he would not unfreeze Iran's assets before peace deal is done

Donald Trump said that he would not unfreeze Iranian assets or lift any sanctions before a peace deal is reached.

The president told NBC News he would only consider those steps after an agreement is done.

"Comes after," he said. "Yeah. If they behave, if they do a good job, we start talking. Yeah."

Trump also said that he was not demanding that Lebanon be a part of a short-term deal with Tehran.

"I think they'd like to see it, but I'm not demanding," Trump said in the interview recorded on Friday.

"We're very close to a deal, or I'm going to blow the hell out of them," Trump added.
