Oil prices drop and stock markets rise after reports of deal to end Iran war2 hours agoShareSaveAdd as preferred on GoogleOsmond ChiaandMitchell Labiak,Business reportersGetty ImagesOil prices have dropped and global stock markets have risen following reports that the US and Iran are close to a deal to end the war.
Brent crude futures, the global benchmark oil price, fell to $97 (£73) a barrel after the reports before rebounding to over $101. The price was over $108 earlier in the day.
The FTSE 100 index of London's largest public firms and Germany's Dax index closed over 2% up while the French Cac 40 was up 3%. Asian indexes also ended the day higher while the US S&P 500 rose 1% in early trading.
The market movements come after Axios reported that the US believes it is close to a one-page document which will end the war and set up detailed nuclear talks.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’s legal team has filed an 84-page appeal brief, arguing that the music mogul’s conviction and sentencing on prostitution-related charges were unjust.
Combs, 56, was found guilty on two counts of prostitution-related charges and sentenced to 50 months in prison following an eight-week trial in New York earlier this year. Combs — who is now serving out his sentence at a low-security New Jersey prison — was also acquitted of more serious sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges.
The court heard weeks of testimony from Combs’s ex-girlfriends and former associates detailing alleged abuse. Several witnesses also described Combs’s drug-fueled sex marathons, referred to as “freak-offs” or “hotel nights.”
Combs’s attorneys have maintained that the sexual encounters described in the case were consensual.

The message sent by Epstein – who is alleged to have taken the photo – reads: “Yes she [Giuffre] was on my plane and yes she had her picture taken with Andrew.”
Epstein's account appears to contradict the former prince's assertion that he never met Ms Giuffre and his longstanding suggestion that the image of him with his arm around her may have been doctored.
The July 2011 email was published on Wednesday alongside more than 20,000 pages of correspondence from the convicted sex offender and disgraced financier's estate.
