Tennessee district bans doctor’s notes to exempt kids from school to teach them good work ethic

A school district in Tennessee will no longer accept doctor’s notes as an excuse for a child’s absence in an apparent attempt to prepare them for the workplace.
New rules set out by the Lawrence County School System Board of Education state that “absences are not excused” and only permits them in a number of specific circumstances. Regular illness is not included in the list.
Sanctions for multiple instances of alleged truancy include loss of school event privileges and even referral to juvenile court for truancy.
“If you have the sniffles, that is fine,” Director of Schools Michael Adkins said during a recent meeting. “You are going to have them when you go to work one day. We have all gone to work sick and hurt and beat up.”
The new attendance policy states that “absences shall be classified as absent” and “absences are not excused or unexcused.”

House ethics panel tells AOC to make more payments over her Met Gala ‘Tax the Rich’ outfit

The House Ethics Committee has told Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, to make more payments over her Met Gala “Tax the Rich” outfit.
While the Met Gala is always an eye-catching affair, in September 2021, Ocasio-Cortez stunned onlookers with a Brother Vellies custom white mermaid gown that had the words “Tax the Rich” written in red on the back.
At the time, the congresswoman explained on Instagram she wanted to bring attention to the idea of raising taxes for the wealthiest Americans by doing so “in front of the very people who lobby against it,” per the Daily News. The event cost $35,000 per person at that time, The New York Times reported.
For years, the ethics panel has been investigating Ocasio-Cortez’s attendance at the 2021 Met Gala, and now it says she must make additional payments worth nearly $3,000 in relation to the event.

Idaho college killer Bryan Kohberger is a shower-hogging ‘weirdo’ who calls his mom daily for hours, fellow inmates say

Convicted mass murderer Bryan Kohberger called his mother for hours, took lengthy showers and washed his hands “dozens of times a day” behind bars, according to his fellow inmates.
The former PhD student, 30, was described by other prisoners as a “f****** weirdo,” who quickly became annoying due to some of his habits, documents released by police in Idaho revealed.
Kohberger was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison at a hearing at the Ada County courthouse in Boise for the murders of four University of Idaho students in 2022. Earlier this month he suddenly switched his plea to guilty avoiding the possibility of the death penalty.
Following his sentencing, the Moscow police department released several tranches of files related to their investigations, including accounts from inmates at Latah County Jail, where Kohberger had been held.

Red Lobster’s new CEO brought the seafood chain back from the brink of bankruptcy and he did it by reading customers’ comments.
Last month, Red Lobster launched its comeback menu with new crab-themed dishes, including table-side seafood boils, and it seems to be working.
Until September 14, seafood lovers may choose between the Mariner’s Boil, which features a Maine lobster tail, and the Sailor’s Boil, which features smoked sausage.
These boils can be enjoyed with a choice of three different seasonings, including Garlic Butter, Cajun Butter and Old Bay. The waiter shakes up the seasoning with the seafood in a bag right in front of the customers.
