Iran-US war latest: Israel launches massive strikes on Lebanon as Hegseth claims US has won ‘capital V’ victory

Israel strikes Lebanon with no warning after saying Iran ceasefire doesn’t apply thereDozens have been killed and hundreds injured in Israeli strikes on Lebanon on Wednesday, according to the country’s health ministry.
The Israeli military told The Independent that it had completed the “largest strike” on the country since the start of the conflict.
Israel had said it welcomed a ceasefire between Iran and the US but said the agreement “does not include Lebanon”. It launched strikes on Beirut and Tyre on Wednesday and claimed to be targeting Hezbollah fighters.
Hezbollah said it had paused fighting in light of the ceasefire and urged Israel to do the same.
Meanwhile, US defence secretary Pete Hegseth said that the American military will be “hanging around” in Iran as he declared the US had won a “decisive military victory”.
Trump announced the agreement on Tuesday, hours after he threatened to wipe Iranian civilisation off the map. The two-week ceasefire will lead to Iran reopening..

Iran ceasefire deal gives Trump a way out of war – but at a high cost

Iran ceasefire deal gives Trump a way out of war – but at a high cost11 hours agoShareSaveAdd as preferred on GoogleAnthony ZurcherNorth America correspondentKevin Lamarque / ReutersIn the end, cooler heads prevailed – at least for now.
At 18:32 Washington time, President Donald Trump posted on his social media website that the US and Iran were “very far along” with a “definitive” peace agreement and that he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire to allow negotiations to proceed.
It wasn't exactly the last minute, but with Trump's looming 20:00 EDT (00:00 GMT on Wednesday) deadline to reach a deal or the US would launch massive strikes against Iranian energy and transportation infrastructure, it came pretty close.
All of this is contingent on Iran also suspending hostilities and fully opening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping traffic, which the regime says it will do, while insisting it still exerts “dominion” over the waterway.
The deal allowed Trump to extricate himse..

Trump calls for ‘real loser’ Fox News host to be taken off the air in latest attack on female journalists

Donald Trump has demanded that Fox News takes one of its hosts off the air, branding her a “real loser” in his latest attack on a female journalist.
Trump unloaded on Jessica Tarlov, co-host of The Five in a furious Truth Social post Tuesday, while also blasting Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream.
“For Fox executives only, take Jessica Tarlov off the air,” the president wrote. “She is, from her voice, to her lies, and everything else about her, one of the worst ‘personalities’ on television, a real loser! People cannot stand watching her.”
Trump took Bream to task over the SAVE America Act, or Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which includes proposals to tighten voter registration laws in federal elections.
He also went on to accuse her of failing to “correct” Representative Jake Auchincloss when he criticized the commander-in-chief’s dealings with China and his handling of the ongoing conflict with Iran.

A U.S. Army staff sergeant who reported for duty at a military base in Louisiana with his new bride last week was shocked to see her arrested by ICE agents shortly after their arrival.
Staff Sgt. Matthew Blank, 23, had driven from Houston, Texas, to Fort Polk with his wife Annie Ramos, 22, and his parents in time for a 2 p.m. registration appointment on Thursday April 2.
Ramos is an undocumented migrant who was brought to the U.S. by her parents when she was a toddler and had understood that she would receive a green card through her marriage, which would entitle her to apply for citizenship within three years of its receipt, as is customary under U.S. immigration law.

How rescue of US airman in remote part of Iran unfolded

How rescue of US airman in remote part of Iran unfolded2 hours agoShareSaveAdd as preferred on GoogleGabriela PomeroyReutersParts of an aircraft, which Iran claims was destroyed in the US rescue mission, were shown on Iranian state TVUS special forces launched a high-stakes raid into Iran on Sunday to rescue an injured airman left stranded in a remote mountainous region after his aircraft was shot down two days earlier.
While many details remain confidential, some information has begun to emerge about how the US raced against the clock and advancing Iranian operatives to find the officer deep inside hostile territory.
The airman's ordeal began on Friday when an F-15E Strike Eagle jet was shot down over southwestern Iran – the first incident of its kind in more than 20 years.
The two US military personnel on board ejected and, while the pilot was rescued the same day, the second crew member – a weapons operator – became separated and remained stranded in a sparsely populated, rug..

Trump declares victory after rescue but threats to US operation in Iran still loom

Trump declares victory after rescue but threats to US operation in Iran still loom14 hours agoShareSaveAdd as preferred on GoogleBernd Debusmann JrWhite House reporterGetty ImagesUS President Donald Trump was swift to declare victory after the second crew member of a F-15 fighter jet downed over Iran was recovered, claiming that the dramatic and successful rescue in Iranian territory “proves, once again, that we have achieved overwhelming air dominance and superiority”.
Observers, however, paint a more complicated picture of what this means for the US in Iran.
While the mission was a success, the events of the last few days – in which two aircraft were downed and at least one helicopter was hit by gunfire – highlight that threats to US aircraft and personnel remain even after weeks of heavy US and Israeli strikes against Iran's military infrastructure and boasts from the president that Tehran had “no anti-aircraft equipment” left.
