ClosePresident Donald Trump has confirmed that he would sign a bill compelling the Justice Department to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Trump said he would sign the legislation while speaking to reporters during a White House FIFA World Cup 2026 Task Force meeting in the Oval Office. The House is expected to vote on the bill as soon as Tuesday, but it could still face hurdles in the Senate.
The president’s voice was also hoarse throughout the event, prompting one reporter to ask him about it.
“I feel great,” Trump replied. “I was shouting at people because they were stupid about something having to do with trade in a country, and I straightened it out, but I blew my stack at these people.”
Trump was later pressed on which country it was, but he declined to answer.
The event comes after Trump said that House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, in a stunning reversal of his former position. Before Trump’s endorsement, Republicans appeared split on whether to vote for a bill that would compel the Justice Department to release the files. But now, some lawmakers are anticipating a unanimous House vote on the issue, The New York Times reports.

Trump told reporters Monday that some people who are “being looked at very seriously” for their relationship with Epstein were with the disgraced financier “all the time.”
The president added: ”I wasn't. I wasn't at all.”
Newsom then reacted to Trump’s comments by posting a photo on X of Trump and Epstein partying at Mar-a-Lago in 1992, which was captured from archived footage taken by NBC News.

Trump says he'll sign bill on Epstein files release
President Donald Trump was asked Monday afternoon if he would sign a bill compelling the Justice Department to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Trump said he would sign it, but also accused the Epstein files of being a “Democrat problem.”
“What I just don't want Epstein to do is detract from the great success of the Republican Party, including the fact that the Democrats are totally blamed for the shutdown,” Trump said.
Trump also claimed that “all of [Epstein’s] friends were Democrats,” and named former President Bill Clinton, among others. This comes after Clinton’s spokesperson, Angel Urena, said last week that the newly released Epstein emails “prove Bill Clinton did nothing and knew nothing.”

Representative Lance Gooden told The New York Timeshe expects all of his Republican colleagues to vote to release the Epstein files.
“As long as Democrats and President Trump both are calling for the release, I can’t imagine anyone not voting to release tomorrow,” he told the outlet. “I predict 100 percent will vote to release.”
However, there may be one holdout: Republican Representative Troy Nehls, who said late last week he would vote “no on the Epstein hoax.” It’s unclear whether he’s changed his mind in light of Trump’s recent reversal, the Times reports.

White House shares statement on Epstein files
The White House has issued a statement titled “Where is Democrats’ Transparency on Epstein?”
“As President Donald J. Trump said, ‘House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party,’” the statement reads. “Why haven’t Democrats shown the same transparency — and what else are they hiding?”
The White House’s statement goes on to list some prominent Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton, with alleged connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
Clinton’s spokesperson, Angel Urena, said last week that the newly revealed Epstein emails “prove Bill Clinton did nothing and knew nothing.”
“The rest is noise meant to distract from election losses, backfiring shutdowns, and who knows what else,” Urena wrote on X.
