Australian politicians urged restraint on Tuesday after police in Sydney clashed with people protesting the visit of Israeli president Isaac Herzog, who is accused of inciting a genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
Police made at least 27 arrests amid allegations of excessive force used against protesters and rights groups, reports said. Violence broke out on the evening of 9 February after thousands of people gathered near Sydney Town Hall to oppose Mr Herzog’s visit.
The New South Wales Police said officers moved to clear the area after demonstrators attempted to breach blockades, resulting in arrests. Ten people were accused of assaulting police officers.
Tear gas and pepper spray were used to disperse the crowd, while television footage showed officers pushing protesters back and restraining some of them on the ground. Police said there were no reports of serious injuries.

Passengers injured after JetBlue flight makes emergency landing in Tampa with flight control issue

Several passengers were injured onboard a JetBlue flight from Mexico to New Jersey, after the aircraft suffered a flight control issue and was forced to make an emergency landing.
The Airbus 320 was heading to Newark Liberty International Airport from Cancun International Airport when it was forced to divert to Tampa, Florida, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Hitting it big twice: NJ couple wins $3M in lottery, months after $1M win

A couple in New Jersey has had a seriously lucky year after hitting lottery jackpots twice in 2025.
The couple won $3 million in a scratch-off ticket less than six months after they won another $1 million prize from the New Jersey Lottery.
They told the New Jersey Lottery that the game they won — Jackpot Millions — was one of several they bought from an Exxon station in Fischer Bay.
The husband said he and his wife have had a competition to see who can win the most from scratch-offs.
“With our kids, we can't really get out of the house,” the husband said. “So at the beginning of the month, we get some tickets. When the kids go to bed, we scratch a few off. We like to make it a bit of a competition — who can win the most. It seems we at least always break even.”
